Prince William announces the winners of the first Earthshot Prize

The first five winners of the Earthshot prize were announced at a ceremony in London on Sunday night, with the winners each winning £1m.

Launched by The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earthshot Prize is the most prestigious global environmental prize in history.

Its five missions over the next ten years are to: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste Free World and Fix Our Climate.

The Earthshot Prize’s name is reference to the “Moonshot” ambition where President Kennedy pledged to get a man on the moon within a decade.

Studio Silverback have been commissioned to make a landmark TV series on the Earthshots, which will air on BBC One with David Attenborough and Prince William. Studio Silverback was launched by Silverback Films earlier this year, advised by Helion, as a production company solely focused on films that tackle the world’s most pressing environmental issues.

Helion would like to congratulate this year’s winners: The Republic of Costa Rica, Takachar, Coral Vita, The City of Milan Food Waste Hubs and AEM Electrolyser on their amazing achievements and the work they are doing to help repair the planet.

Each of the finalists, shortlisted from over 750 nominations, will be given help from companies to develop their projects.
