Established in 2020 by Andrew Eaton, Tracey Scoffield, Justin Thomson and David Tanner, Turbine Studios is a high-end British production company behind multi-award-winning Steve McQueen’s Small Axe (BBC/Amazon), Munich: The Edge of War (Netflix), and is currently shooting its latest super high premium project, Constellation, for Apple TV+. Turbine’s focus is creating premium high quality returning drama not only for the UK broadcasters but, in particular, for the global streaming platforms including Apple, Netflix and Amazon.
Turbine is considered one of the most dynamic and entrepreneurial scripted producers currently working in the UK. The company has already in its short history garnered a considerable number of awards for its productions, not least for Small Axe, which is the most BAFTA-nominated series ever. McQueen’s BBC documentary series Uprising also won a BAFTA for Best Factual Series.
Its latest project, Constellation, a premium eight-part conspiracy-based, psychological thriller for Apple TV+, written by Peter Harness, stars Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus) and Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), and is directed by Emmy Award winner Michelle MacLaren (The Morning Show).
Turbine’s success in Germany with Munich: Edge of War led them to launch Turbine Studios Germany as subsidiary of the main London-based business. Along with its other international growth plans, Turbine sees European premium drama as an attractive growth market and is already developing further ambitious European projects.
The investment from BBC Studios will enable Turbine to further grow its creative and operational team and to invest in development.
“We’re excited to be part of the BBC Studios family. Tom and Alex at Helion understood the complexities of our business requirements, negotiating a deal that delivered brilliantly on our objectives.”

“It’s a pleasure to have worked with the Turbine team. They are building a very exciting niche focusing on high premium, international drama for the streaming platforms by combining their UK streamer experience and exceptional UK writer relationships, with very high-quality production talent in both the UK and in Europe. Their first high premium project, Constellation, for Apple, a psychological thriller, provides an indication of the strength of the shows they have in development. As the streaming platforms increasingly look to commission international stories for global audiences, they are well positioned for growth. The investment from BBC Studios allows them to fully capitalise on the opportunity by building out their team and investing in development.”
